Roswell is a city located in northern Fulton County. The city of Roswell was founded by Roswell King who came from St. Simons Island in 1836. Roswell King established the Roswell Manufacturing Company, and built a mill to harness the power of the local rivers to make textiles. Roswell became an official city on February 16^th, 1854. The very first traffic signal was installed in 1949 at the intersection of Sloan and Atlanta streets, today there are 93 traffic signals in the city. Mittie Bulloch Roosevelt, the mother of Theodore Roosevelt the 26^th President, was born at Bullock Hall. She was born to one of the first families living in the Roswell area.

There are a number of historic homes in Roswell, including Bulloch Hall, the childhood home of Theodore Roosevelt’s mother, Martha “Mittie” Bullock. Another home preserved of the Roswell’s founding families is the Archibald Smith Plantation. And, there is Barrington Hall which is the home of Barrington King, son of Roswell King who is the namesake and founder of Roswell. Tourism is a large source of revenue in Roswell because of the thousands of visitors that visit the Historic District each week.

In the last fifteen years Roswell has become Georgia’s sixth largest city. The 2008 census estimated the population to be 87,657. Roswell has been chosen twice by “Atlanta Magazine” as the best place to live in the Atlanta Metropolitan area. Roswell also received the City of Excellence Award from The Georgia Municipal Association in 2003. The City of Roswell has been ranked one of the safest places to live in the United States, this according to the City Crime Rankings. Money Magazine ranked the City of Roswell one of the top 20 best cities to live in the eastern United States.

Roswell is an affluent suburb of Atlanta that is renowned for its high standard of living. The City of Roswell has plenty of outdoor recreational activities for families and pets which include biking, boating, rafting, hiking, and a park system that is one of the best in the state. Roswell has 18 parks with 800 acres of active and passive parkland and facilities. The Chattahoochee Nature Center is also located in Roswell, and encompasses 127 acres and has four nature trails. The Chattahoochee Nature Center offers a wide variety of fun and educational programs for children each year.
