Suwanee Real Estate
Before Suwanee was incorporated in 1949, it was originally an Indian Village located about 3 miles southwest of the current downtown area, where the Suwanee Creek runs into the Chattahoochee River. The name Suwanee is closely tied to the City’s Native American Heritage. There is great speculation regarding where the name originated from; some believe it comes from the Indian word meaning “echo”. Others credit the name to the early white settler’s way of pronouncing the word “Shawnee”. At the time Suwanee was incorporated it was 3.1 square miles. Astonishingly, it now incorporates nearly 7,000 Acres, and about 10.8 square miles.
Suwanee is one of the fastest growing cities in Georgia and is home to over ten thousand residents. The city is committed to preserving and enhancing its historic area; as well as providing outstanding service to its citizens and businesses. Suwanee has received many awards over the years and a few include: The Georgia Municipal Association and Georgia Trend Magazine named the City of Suwanee a 2003 City of Excellence. Suwanee Ranked #35 on Money Magazine’s list of Best places to live in 2009. Voted Best Farmers Market & Best Playground or Park (PlayTown Suwanee), by Nickelodeon’s 2009 Parents’ Pick Awards
Suwanee offers several great attractions, and recreational parks in the area. George Pierce Park has many recreational programs, and was recognized in 2008 as the top park agency in the nation by the National Recreation & Park Association and the American Academy for Park & Recreation Administration. Other Parks located in Suwanee are the multi faceted Sims Lake Park, and Suwanee Creek Park which has remained in its natural state.
Town Center was envisioned in 2002, and has quickly become the heart of the community. Located at the intersection of Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and Buford Highway, it is the primary community gathering place. Once fully completed it will have more than 100,000 square feet of retail space, 87,000 square feet of office space, 147 Townhome and condominium units, 85 single family homes, and the 10 acre Town Center Park. Town Center Park, known as Suwanee’s “Front Yard”, has a classic and attractive design. It has the largest interactive fountain in Gwinnett County, and a performance stage with a 1,000 seat amphitheater. This park is an excellent place for play time with your family.
Suwanee is conveniently located to many chain and locally owned restaurants. You can shop your heart out at the Mall of Georgia which is less than 15 minutes away. Fishing, boating, swimming can all be done at Lake Lanier which is right around the corner of this beautiful community.
